February 21, 2013 Children sing at Ukrainian Forum on Philanthropy
Children from the Bucha School, most of whom had traveled to Strasbourg to sing for The Council of Europe in October 2011, performed for the Fifth Conference of The Ukrainian Forum on Philanthropy, held Feburary 21, 2013 at the President Hotel in downtown Kiev. The children performed for the closing of the conference by singing four songs, which encouraged the audience to continue to provide hope and dignity for children in need.

Christmas in Kiev celebrated its 9th year of Christmas Music Camp and concert in Kiev, Ukraine. Classes were held in the town of Vyshgarod at the middle school, "Intellect." The concert was at the magnificent National Philharmonic Concert Hall in downtown Kiev.
The children performed the instrumentarium of Pachelbel's Canon in D and The First Noel in the lobby as the guests arrived. Choral selections included Ukrainian carols, international carols, and selections from the Christmas portion of Handel's Messiah.

September 2-7, 2012 Music Camp in Iasi, Romania
The first week of September, Music Camp International returned to the city of Iasi, for its third year. With over 600 children registered, this was our largest Music Camp for 2012. A staff of 25, including international teachers from the United States, conducted classes in violin, cello, guitar, handbells, handchimes, Orff percussion instruments, and soprano, alto, and tenor recorder. This Music Camp was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and General Inspector, Mrs. Camelia Gavrila and the Iasi-Moldova State Philharmonic Orchestra. |

April 15-20, 2012 Music Camp in Arad, Romania
After months of preparation, talking with officials, and meeting with key leaders, Music Camp International held its first Music Camp in Arad, its newest host city. Invitations were distributed in public and private middle schools throughout the city and surrounding villages. Members of the philharmonic orchestra accompanied the children in their concert on Saturday, April 21. The National Philharmonic concert hall was filled to capacity to see and hear what these children accomplished in just one week! April 8-13, 2012 Easter with the Masters
Young people from all over the Romania who had participated in Music Camp and had been preselected, arrived in Bucharest on April 8. The students and staff lived in the dormitory and ate at the cafeteria at Dinu Lipatti, the music high school. The Festival included middle school and high school students. Repertoire included the great classical music of the season--an opening bell processional of the universally known Romanian hymn Hristos ã inviat din morți ("Christ is risen from the dead"); then the choral opener, Veniți sã ne inchinam ("Come, let us worship" by Romanian composer, Valentin Timaru). Then the children performed Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus (in Latin) and selections from the Easter portion of Handel’s Messiah (in English). The children were accompanied by the principle players of the Georg Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, Romania's most distinguished orchestra. The concert was at St. Joseph's Cathedral in the city center. This was the third year for this annual event which is quickly becoming Romania's premiere Festival for children during the Easter season.

December 28, 2011-January 8, 2012 Vyshgarod, Ukraine
Christmas in Kiev celebrated its 8th festival in this great city. This year daily classes and rehearsals were held in Vyshgarod, a town on the northern edge of the Kiev. Many new children participated. The beautiful National Philharmonic Concert Hall was filled to capacity. The instrumentarium, which was performed in the lobby, welcomed parents, dignitaries, and a host of media. Music Camp International collaborated with Source of Hope, a children's charity in the Kiev Region. The Vice Governor of Kiev Region and President of Source of Hope spoke at the concert.

October 2, 2011 The Council of Europe, Strasbourg, France
The Council of Europe is the most important political forum in all of Europe. One of their highest priorities is the protection of children. This year the President of The Committee of Ministers, Kostyantyn Gryshchenko is The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Music Camp International collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Permanent Representation of Ukraine to The Council of Europe, and the Kiev Region Administration to bring 45 children from Bucha, a small town on the outskirts of Kiev, to sing a concert dedicated to the needy children of Europe and the world. The children prepared for 17 days. Prior to this project, the children had never sung together or played musical instruments. The audience was speechless to witness what these children had learned in such a short time--6 songs; four languages; and an instrumentarium on Beethoven's Ode to Joy.

September 4-9, 2011 Music Camp Returned to Iasi
Our second Music Camp in Iasi was even larger than 2010. over 500 children attended. Classes and rehearsals were again held at the Music High School, since it is the only school in the city with a large enough rehearsal hall to accommodate this many children. Every class was full and every seat in the rehearsal was occupied, with another 150 chairs on the stage and in the aisles. This year, following the premier launch in Bucharest, classes in cello were added to the already exciting list of instrument classes. The Governor of the Iasi Judete (region), and General Inspector, Liliana Romaniuc attended the concert. Both gave tremendous support to this city-wide project and extended an invitation to Music Camp International to return in 2012. The Monseigneur spoke to the crowd about the powerful message of the repertoire sung by the children. |

August 28-September 3, 2011 Rotary Clubs sponsor Music Camp in Bucharest, Romania
The Curtea Veche Rotary Club of Bucharest, Romania, is dedicated to helping the needy children of its community. In a project designed to give these children an opportunity to experience the benefits of learning musical instruments and singing great choral music, the Rotary Club of Bucharest partnered with Rotary Clubs from California's Monterey Peninsula (Monterey Peninsula Sunrise Club and the Pacific Grove Club) to provide a Music Camp for over 500 children. The Music Camp was endorsed by the Ministry of Education's General Inspector for Bucharest, Mr. Cristian Alexandrescu, and Music Inspector, Iulian Leventiu. The Ministry provided the historic Mihai Viteazu high school for the rehearsals and classes. Thanks to the Rotary International Matching Grant, Music Camp International was able to purchase cellos and additional instruments for the children.
