What is Music Camp International?
Music Camp International is at its heart a social program that transforms children, teachers, and communities through the healing gift of music. MCI conducts one-week Music Camps that include both choir and instrument classes. In countries that have traditionally limited high quality music opportunities to an elite few, MCI specializes in working with the disadvantaged, the orphans, and children with special needs. We are based on a philosophy of open access and high quality performance for all children, regardless of social, economic, or religious background. At the end of the week-long camp, a concert is presented on a major concert stage with the accompaniment of local symphony orchestras and professional musicians. MCI believes that music is a universal language and the ability to learn and enjoy music is within each child's capacity to learn. In the process of discovering and developing the "music within", the child is given dignity, hope, and self-confidence. Music Camps develop strong relationships among the children and teachers. Rehearsals and instrument classes become living learning centers of social relationships, compassion, and working together for a shared goal. Great music is the centerpiece of repertoire selection, and children learn to sing in multiple languages.
